I was chatting with a girlfriend last night and though we hit a powder keg topic (*cough*Bono’s Africa*cough*)
we did discuss ice cream.
I had mentioned that my failing is ice cream. I’ve come to realize this and it’s a bit difficult to admit that it’s harder for me to pass up ice cream than it is to pass up chocolate. That’s just a theory I have since I’ve not really tried to pass up either if it’s offered to me. Well, ok, the actual scenario is that we have ice cream more often than we have chocolate. My husband is the ice cream pusher. Since we moved here, we’ve gone through maybe, I dunno, 2 1/2 gallons of Blue Bell Ice Cream. Blue Bell is a Texas-local creamery as far as we know. We’ve had vanilla bean (still some in the fridge), rocky road, peaches and vanilla (not so good, sadly), fudge brownie. I think that’s it. For the price, it’s great and it even beats Breyers IMO.
Then there’s Amy’s Ice Cream. Wow. I mean, WOW!
I’m not sure how they do it, but this stuff is super premium like they say. Amy’s got a flavor called Mexican Vanilla and I’m at a loss as to how to describe how this tastes. Is it the vanilla beans? Because you can tell there’s a real vanilla bean used. It’s got an almost florid undertone to it. If this stuff didn’t cost so much, I’d be another five pounds heavier.
Suffice it to say, I trust that Amy knows what she’s doing when she makes ice cream (or supervises those that do). However, check their list of flavors. I kind of have some reservations about some of those. I mean, Guinness? Shiner Bock? Ew. Granted, I don’t like beer but would you eat beer ice cream?
