So, here we are, a few days in to our stay. Let’s see…
Last night was the first time in a long time that we all had a good night’s rest. For most of the nights we’ve been traveling, J has had so much trouble sleeping. Maybe exhaustion took over last night because he never woke up. The night before, he took forever to go to bed and then woke up in the middle of the night and came to me every 10 minutes to tell me he had to go potty then cried when he couldn’t. After too long—my brain was mush—I decided to sleep next to him and he finally did calm down and fall asleep. I suspect that the one time hubby and were looking at a house and the boys were in the car with the realtor, someone was talking about thunder and lightning because he was so worried about it yesterday and telling us he was scared of it. I actually hope we get a good storm with a good lightning show that we can all sit through with popcorn and blankets so he can have a positive experience to help dispell any fears.
Last Tuesday, we spent a couple of hours house hunting. We found a layout we liked (one I liked on paper and turns out like even more in person) but it’s a to-be-built property. We will go on another hunt Friday and Saturday. I’m hoping we find a similar one in another area about 5 miles closer to downtown. Five miles seems to be a huge deal around here. Also, the tax and utility rates in that area are pretty high compared to the one area were I originally wanted to focus our search. Around here, just like everywhere else, tax rates just go up and not down ever so that’s a major concern. But a couple of hours of looking isn’t really a good thing to base a big decision on.
The weather has been so nice. Lots and lots of rain with some sunshine. It reminds me of the Manila I grew up in only a little cooler. Just enough humidity to feel really good. No AC needed, just fans maybe. The view from the apartment windows and balcony is so pretty. I took pics and when I find the camera cable I can unload them and show them to you. The boys have gone swimming twice now and are enjoying the huge tub in their bathroom. I’m enjoying not freezing when I happen to be out in the rain plus all the effects of it. So much green!
To family: sorry to say but I’m not homesick at all yet. I’m not missing Trader Joe’s much so far either. But we’ve only been here for a little bit. No regrets and that’s great! It’s so very different here and so far in good ways. They even seem to have an outdoor mall like the Spectrum or Fashion Island but I’m not sure if they have a theater (they do have condos). We have yet to venture down town but maybe I’ll take the boys there tomorrow while their abba is working and check out Book People with them.
Because of the rain, we won’t even try to do the fireworks shows because it most likely won’t be worth it. That’s ok though…the youngest would rather avoid them!
