Who is ringing in the New Year with you? Who do you wish could be with you, but isn't there?
My other half and my two boys. Since we never really did much at New Year's with anyone, we aren't missing anyone at least so far as this event is concerned.
When we were kidless, we would head to church and hear Pastor Chuck do a prophecy update. This year, if hubby is up for it (he's feeling sick), we're going to church to play games and such to ring in the new year.
So I wonder, should I move my "real" blog content here to Vox?
Why you wonder?
My web host is not being very nice (words borrowed from my children's vernacular). Bits and pieces of the site aren't working. I've requested many, many times over the last couple of months that they send me the info to access the MySQL server via phpMyAdmin, but to no avail. This, in spite of a "ok, I'll take care of it now" remark when I ninja'd him as he logged on to AIM. That happened three weeks ago.
I have so many posts on the server that aren't backed up. I do have some back ups but over a year old (yikes!). I can't for the life of me find any paper work that shows my passwords, etc. Dilemma.
I'm desperate enough to back up via cut and paste. Hehe.
What was the best movie you saw this year?
Um. Hang on. Did I see a movie this year?
Sometimes you just have the urge for good 'merican grub. Actually, I wanted a quiche but only had a few eggs and I don't really like eggs. I remembered my auntie used to make Impossible Pie because she was a Bisquick fan, so I hunted down a recipe. Recently, I came across a cookbook that basically gave recipes for goodies with lots of veggie and fruit purees to sneak in vitamins and minerals into kids without them knowing. Impossible pie seemed like a good thing to sneak veggies into. Here's my attempt and the pickiest eater in our family asked for thirds.
1 pound chopped leftover cheeseburgers (approx. 2 patties or enough to make a layer in your pie pan)
1 chopped, sauteed onion or a heaping tbs. dried
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup milk
1/2 cup Hodgeson's Mill Whole Wheat Baking Mix (or Bisquick)
2 eggs
1 c. frozen sweet corn kernels, heated and pureed with
1 tsp. of sugar
Heat oven to 400 degrees F. Or convection oven to 375 degrees F.
Chop burgers. Stir in salt and pepper. Spread in a greased 9-inch pie plate; sprinkle with half the cheese. Stir remaining ingredients with fork until blended. Pour over meat mixture. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake 20-25 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
Just about done! I forgot to blog this earlier. There are only about 2 inches left of seaming under one arm plus weaving in ends. Actually...I try to leave those undone though in this case I won't.
There are issues with the fit I think. Also, the yarn is 80% cotton, 20% wool. The wool is really obvious, though, in that it's itchy. So I think I'll completely soak it and use some (a lot) of fabric softener and see if that negates the scratchy. That may help with the bunching I have in the back also.
The neck may need to be redone as well. It doesn't look tailored enough for me and this may have been a good time to ignore the pattern and pick up less stitches in the front to make the V look more crisp.
I thought I'd share what we had for Christmas dinner. Even with our diet being limited in some ways, we did enjoy a big, big, yummy meal.
Since the youngest member of our family would prefer it if the only things he ate involved carbs and sugars, we decided no red meat and splurged on a ham. Ya it was pricey even though we bought the smallest one we could find. It was worth the splurge, though, to avoid nitrites and nitrates and things that aren't on our diet (cloves). It was so good and we will be dining on leftover ham for days! Best of all, it has a bone so I can look forward to pea soup one of these days. I love pea soup!
I pretended to know what I was doing when I put together macaroni, peas, carrots, mayo, salt, pepper and sugar. It came out well only it needed more salt (I tend to under salt things). We also had smashed potatoes, pineapples, cranberry sauce, campfire biscuits, yams and candy. Yes, if there was a theme to dinner it would have been sugar.
Two really
good things though: the biscuits were a last-minute addition and were
very well received even though they looked awful. Also (the best part)
it looks as if cranberries are ok and aren't causing a reaction for NM.
He's been just fine. I'll let him eat more today and tomorrow to see if
it's an issue of building up too much in his system or what.
(I write with tongue in cheek)
I keep missing the chance to take a photo to prove this fact to you. In the tract of homes across from ours is a very obvious sign of love. There is a steer made of orange lights and steel and fan-aticism perched proudly atop a roof top for all passers by to see. Why? This is Longhorn town, people. The folks here wear it on their sleeves and roof tops. Longhorns? They love meat? No...they love college football.
Frankly, I love how people are so proud of their team even if I don't get into it. There's something to be said for almost a whole town loving the only really big team they have in spite of only one major win (i hear said) in recent years (they beat the Trojans. I hear you gasping!). There wasn't really any "spirit" of that kind out in California where I lived even though there was lots of sport type things to enjoy. Maybe there were that many more distractions? I don't know.
Anyway, I thought I better share that with you before I forget. I do still hope to prove it with photos.
Today we celebrated not just the presents and the ever-present Legos (always the hit), but the One who was God who took on the form of man.
We love Him because He first loved us. Glory to God in the highest! And peace upon those on whom His favor rests.
Blessings to all our friends and family who we remember most fondly now that we are far from many of them. But in all situations we are learning to be content.
Get tissues.

Posting for my MIL. We added more things to the tree since last week. Many of them are where my little helpers can reach. I also fixed the bough over the fire place (finally!). Next year: better hooks.
