Arrgh...math. Just thinking of the multiplication table makes my head explode. I hope he didn't take after me :-P
No...he's good at math and that's why he was so frustrated. He's actually really good at math and reading, but not at putting it down on paper.
Let him look through the math book and work on something that will interest him in it. Have him tell you if there is anything in there that he hasn't done or isn't remembering very well so you can concentrate on those.

What totally frustrates James is that almost every math book starts out with the easy addition/subtraction and he gets bored with those. I don't make him do all of those. Just some to refresh his mind and the tests and then we do our best to get on to the stuff he doesn't know. He likes math and is good at it. Amie, on the other hand, really needs to go through the refresher course at the beginning of each math book.
