Honda Element & Speaking of the Top of Cars...
So, some years ago, I took a look at the Honda web site when I was just browsing car sites to check out their user interface. I remember signing up for a survey that asked questions about a certain idea for a car and what I remember of it was the color which was tomato red.
Fast forward to about nine months ago, and we see one on the road and JM and I think to ourselves that if Lego made a car, it would look just like the Honda Element. Then we see this ad on YouTube, and it clicks together!
My husband is sorely tempted to trade in the truck for one of these. The other alternative temptation, the Toyota FJ Cruiser, was on the list because of how cool it looks. It can't top the Element feature for feature, though. It does have some vague sentimental sort of value for me.
Because the top of the FJ is white, it reminds me of a strange phase my dad had gone through. Having found several rolls of unusually thick aluminum foil at some surplus Army-Navy sale, he hit on an idea to take advantage of the heat resistant quality of aluminum to keep our cars cool. He took the aluminum foil and used rubber cement to attach the strips to the roofs of our cars. I can imagine you cringing and I don't begrudge you that--I did the same thing. "How embarrassing! How gaudy!" I used to think. But seriously, he was right. Sure, the glare off our cars roofs probably did annoy those in taller vehicles. Sure it looked odd and sloppily done. But you know what? After sitting in it for a few minutes and realizing it was at least 10 degrees cooler---tropical country, remember---I stopped caring what it looked like.
