For Resurrection Day
A collection of illustrations and scriptures on Holy Week's events.
Blue Letter Bible's Passover and Resurrection Day page
A list of scriptures that log the events of that week
I feel a lack of focus this week regarding the events that this weekend are commemorating. Oh, I've started working on candy and goodies for the boys, that's not it. Maybe I'm not alone in this, but this holy day came sooner than I expected it to. That's left me with very little time to meditate on the events that lead up to the biggest day in history so far.
Perhaps there was a bit too much melodrama back then, but there was something to be said for the way that Holy Week was celebrated where I grew up. It seemed like the entire Philippines would close shop and everyone would turn on their TV in the evening to see The Ten Commandments or any number of other films that commemorate the Passover, the Exodus, the sacrifice of Christ. There would be the usual news report of prison inmates and others allowing themselves to be crucified to pay for their own sins (it still happens...Google is your friend).
But it always felt like Friday never made its way to Sunday, no matter how many eggs we found in our garden after we let the bunny loose from its cage.
The women's study this semester begins with a focus on prayer and the first thing that has been pointed out is that God (yes, God!) wants us to be in a very intimate relationship. He's not some faraway Baal that requires the bribery of pain on my part before I will even look at me. The blood of sacrifices, animal or man, are pointless. Instead, He gave himself a sacrifice, once and for all. That's it, it was done. And three days later, He came back to life from the dead, making His promises sure.
I did nothing, and yet, because I believe in Him, He wants me to call Him Daddy. He wants to bless me in ways I can't even begin to count. He wants to forgive me when I stumble. He wants me to be a blessing to others. It's such a huge idea, it's hard to wrap my mind around. He loves me!
Sunday
Tree63 from the album Sunday
Nothing’s sacred, the days are cheap
Truth is thin on the ground
Still our prophets are crucified
Nobody believes we’re stumbling
It’s Friday, but Sunday is coming
Someone’s saying a prayer tonight
For hungry mouths to be filled
Someone kneels in the dark somewhere
And darkness is already crumbling
It’s Friday, but Sunday comes
Sunday – Hallelujah – it’s not so far, it’s not so far away
Sunday – Hallelujah – it’s not so far, it’s not so far away
Broken promises, weary hearts
But one promise remains:
Crucified, he will come again
It’s Friday, but Sunday is coming
It’s Friday, but Sunday is coming
Sunday…

I like that. Happy Easter!
I'm glad God is in charge, and I'm glad He knows everything.
Just a thought, just for you.
